On Memorial Day under bright blue skies, the members of the New Hackensack Fire Department assisted the Town of Wappinger in this years Memorial Day service held at the towns Schlathaus Park located at the intersection of Myers Corners Rd. and All Angels Hill Rd in the Town of Wappinger. The New Hackensack Fire Company has helped with this service numerous times is the past, but this years service was special because it was an opportunity not only to honor those who have fought to defend our freedom, but to also pay tribute to the late Bill Parsons, who was founding member of the New Hackesack Fire Department and a highly decorated WWII GI who passed away on May 12th.
Bill was a longtime New Hackensack Fire Commissioner and for many of those years he served as Chairman. He was an active member of the department and was proud of both its history and accomplishments. He was also proud of the men and women who have fought to defend our country and designed and commissioned a War Memorial in the Schlathaus park in their honor. There was a ceremony raise the flag over the monument that Bill's widow Helen, was presented at his funeral service. The East Fishkill and Roosevelt Fire Departments also assisted in the services.
